WHY YOUR family or newborn PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION IS ABOUT MORE THAN JUST PRETTY PICTURES⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

A little while ago I was chatting to my friend whose second born baby had just turned one. She told me how she finally started going through his newborn photos that I had taken for them the year before.⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
She then went on to tell to me how deeply she doubted herself in those early days and weeks. How she felt she wasn’t giving her second baby enough love and attention and how she felt like her bond wasn’t as strong or instant as it was with her first baby. How much guilt she felt at the time for not being able to give as much of herself to her second born as she could to her first. Of course, that bond and love grew beyond measure over the months – but there was always that memory that she held onto with a sense of guilt for not having all of those big overwhelming / gushy feelings of undying love from his very first breath. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Then she shared that as she started to look through their newborn photos, she was reminded about how much of herself she did actually give to her second born, how deep the connection really was (even though she didn’t realise it at the time), she saw herself doing alllll the things – comforting him, interacting with him, breastfeeding him, loving him – just being there, putting his needs above her own, no matter what. She told me how special and treasured those images now are to her now, one year on, now that she knows and loves him so wholeheartedly. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I’ve always known how precious and powerful a photograph can be…but having my friend share with me just how impactful her newborn photos have been in giving a new sense of meaning to those early days with her new baby, that is extra special to me. And it just reminds me that your photos are so much more than pretty pictures, they are about preserving your families story and they are part of your legacy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
